Engelhardtia roxburghiana Wall.
Engelhardia is a genus of seven species of trees in the family Juglandaceae, native to southeast Asia from northern India east to Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines. The genus name is commonly misspelled "Engelhardtia", a "correction" made by the original author Blume in 1829 and persistent until today, as it was thus entered in the Index Kewensis; the original spelling is Engelhardia.
Engelhardia pollen has been found in deposits of Miocene Age in Denmark.
The ethyl acetate fraction of the leaves of Engelhardia roxburghiana Wall exhibited strong anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and antioxidant activities. From this fraction, three new flavanonol glycosides: (2R, 3R)-3,5,7,4′-tetrahydroxyflavanonol-3-O-(3″-O-galloyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (1), (2R, 3R)-3,5,7,3′,4′-pentahydroxyflavanonol-3-O-(3″-O-galloyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (2), (2R, 3R)-3,5,7,3′,4′-pentahydroxyflavanonol-3-O-(3″-O- p-(E)-coumaroyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (3), were isolated.
