The Psychotria Serpens is a species of flowering plants of the genus Psychotria the family Rubiaceae. It is endemic to Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam).
It is a climbing plant of slow growth, with leaves rich in heavy water, which provide moisture during droughts. Its fruits are white with a small black spot. The growth of P.serpens is done in two phases: first, the roots are taken strongly to rocks or tree trunks, and once secured the base, the plant grows vertically rapidly. Is well adapted to habitats of sunlight and poor can be in the lower parts of densely populated forests.
Psychotria Serpens, Climbing or creeping vines or lianas, to 6 m or more, rather fleshy, juvenile stems appressed to substrate with adventitious roots, reproductive stems spreading at apex; stems glabrous.
Used in traditional Chinese medicine to relieve pain. It can extract the ursòlic acid , used in cosmetics.
